These drum rigs have been specially designed to minimize damage to the fish and reduce improper handling of the fish for release. Proper use of these rigs is very important to the well-being of the fish. Fish the reel in gear with the line tight. When using circle hooks there is no need to set the hook. Let the fish do all the work and a proper hookup will result. Usually the fish will be hooked in the corner of the mouth and minimum damage will be done to the fish.
These Surf rigs work equally well in the Sound or Surf. Some people prefer them even when fishing in the Sound because they can change their weights to pyramid or bank sinkers and go up or down in weight depending on the sea and current conditions.
